As a part of my sermon preparations during the Christmas season I read about the Jewish cultural understanding of love and marriage during the Biblical era. Joseph and Mary’s cultural concepts of love and marriage were quite different than our 2024 American concepts. I found this quite interesting!
When the Bible tells us that God loves us, what were the Bible authors trying to communicate to us? Can a study of their culture help us better understand their thoughts? I believe so. My Sunday sermon will be entitled, “The Love of God. What Does That Mean?”. I hope you and your family will join us this Sunday at 10:00 AM. -Pastor Jeff Carico *All services are available in person and online. *Chilren’s Church and infant nursery provided. Throughout the Christmas season we have taken a journey to Bethlehem and studied the characters of the nativity. We have studied Gabriel, the shepherds, Mary, Joseph, Herod, and the Wise Men. This Sunday we will focus on the central character of the nativity, the baby Jesus.
Christmas Eve will be a special day to be in church with your family. We will celebrate the birth of Jesus with Christmas music, worship, and communion. I hope to see you Sunday at 10:00 AM. If you have a family gathering and it is impossible to be present in person, I hope you will join us online. It has been a great Christmas season here at First Assembly! I express a very special “thank you” to everyone who helped make the season so special! Merry Christmas! -Pastor Jeff Carico Sunday Sermon: “King Herod: A King Who Missed His Opportunity, And Didn’t Take The Make Up Test”
Special Guest: Richard and Denise Kiser. Award winning guitarist and vocalist. Each Sunday during the month of December I am focusing my sermon on one of the different characters of the Christmas nativity. So far we have looked at Gabriel and Mary. This Sunday’s focus will be Joseph, and the title of my sermon will be “Joseph, The Forgotten Character Of Christmas”.
It sometimes seems that the other characters of the nativity have greater roles to play than Joseph, and less attention is given to him. During Christmas plays the spotlight always seems to shine on Gabriel, Mary, Herod, wise men, shepherds or the inn keeper. Have you ever seen a Christmas play where Joseph had a speaking part? See what I mean 🙂 As I have prepared this sermon my appreciation for Joseph has grown. Joseph was presented with a tremendous challenge. It took a very unique and Godly man to play the role of Jesus’ “father”. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit, not Joseph, but who would believe his story? I invite you and your family to be a part of the worship experience of First Assembly this Sunday. I look forward to sharing this worship time with you! -Pastor Jeff Carico Sunday we continue our countdown to Christmas. Each Sunday my sermon will highlight a member of the nativity. This Sunday my theme will be “Mary, The Mother Of Jesus”.
I hope you and your family will be a part of our worship celebration this Sunday, December 3, 10:00 AM. I look forward to seeing you! -Pastor Jeff Carico *all services are available live in the sanctuary as well as online. Children’s Church and Infant Nursery provided each Sunday. Sunday will begin our countdown to Christmas. Each Sunday my sermon will feature a character of the Christmas story. Sunday’s theme will be “The Angel Gabriel”. The narrative of the Christmas story would not be accurate without the inclusion of Gabriel. The role of Gabriel is very important in the birth of Jesus.
Do you believe in the existence of angels? Angels were certainly a part of the birth of Jesus, and I believe you will enjoy Sunday’s study of Gabriel. I hope to have you as a part of our worship family this Sunday at 10:00 AM. -Pastor Jeff Carico *all services are available in the sanctuary and online Hello, everyone! Happy Thanksgiving week to you and your family!
Tomorrow’s Sunday Morning Worship Service is going to be a special time in God’s presence. I feel that I have a special word to share with you! I’ve prayed. I’ve studied the Word. I’m ready to worship and I feel his presence! See you at 10:00 AM 🤲 -Pastor Jeff Carico Hello, everyone!
I invite you and your family to join us this Sunday, November 12 as we begin our journey to Thanksgiving. My sermon title will be “The First Fruits of Thanksgiving”. We have made many preparations for you and your family. We look forward to seeing you this Sunday at 10:00 AM! God bless, -Pastor Jeff Carico During his life and ministry Jesus had several confrontations with the religious leaders of his day. During the last period of his life these confrontations became more frequent, intense and personal. Such is the case recorded in Luke 15. Jesus was being criticized by the Pharisees for sharing his message with sinners. In response Jesus told them three parables:
-The Lost Sheep -The Lost Coin -The Lost Son (Prodigal Son) Each parable contained the same message of God’s desire for sinners to be reached with the message of salvation. But the last parable of the Prodigal Son contained a surprise and different ending. The ending was aimed at the Pharisees and described their attitude. It caused quite a firestorm! I invite you and your family to join me Sunday at 10:00 AM as we study this interesting portion of scripture. -Pastor Jeff Carico *all services available in person and online |
